Disappointed!
Hello Meaford. My lovely little town. Filled with caring people.
Until recently, I never thought this would occur in this, my home town. But I guess, times are a changing.
I consider myself a proud Canadian, and I find myself very invested in the upcoming crucial Federal Election.
After listening to all the candidates, on how they all were going to make promises to make Canada stronger and more self reliant.
I chose my candidate. Because I truly believe Canada does have everything it needs to be one of the World’s Greatest Countries! (We’re pretty good right now but there is room for improvement.)
To achieve this goal we need everyone to work together to raise us up. We need Canada to be united! From Coast to Coast to Coast!
Our Leader needs to be someone who can outsmart Trump stand up to him and not cave in to his childish demands.
So after deciding on who I thought would best fill my dreams for Canada, going forward, off I went to meet My Candidate. Last Thursday.
I spoke to My Candidate hoping that they will be my representative, my voice in Parliament!
Feeling very excited and proud, I asked for two (party) lawn signs, one for neighbour next door and one for me.
I drove home and handed one of the signs to my neighbour, then I proceeded to put my sign on my front lawn! On Private Property! Not on the Town’s Property. That isn’t allowed.
There we were proud to put up Our Vote for our New Leader, hopefully. On our own property.
A couple of days later, as I drove up my driveway, instantly I noticed our Signs Were Gone! They left the frames but the signs were nowhere to be seen?
I was upset And angry. And so were my neighbours. This is really the first election I was totally immersed in. I wanted to show my support, of My Choice of Candidate, on My Private Property.
But SOMEBODY decided I Didn’t Have the Right to do so and Removed Our signs!
How rude and childish of you!
If you don’t approve of my choice, that’s fine that’s your prerogative.
Put out your own signs! But DON’T REMOVE MINE! I’m not hurting anyone!
After this happened, many Meaford citizens told me that removing of your Political Signs from your property is illegal and a Federal Offence and encouraged me to call the OPP. I DID!
Not thinking anything would come of this.
The Clerk Officer/Dispatcher/ couldn’t have been more helpful, caring and reassuring, that yes this was a Federal Offence and I did the right thing calling it in! She asked if we had any cameras that could show who may have done this? Unfortunately no. But We will now install some. But across from us is a business that may just have Cameras that could provide some footage?
She noted all this info down. I thanked her.
So my Fellow Meaford citizens. If this happens to you please contact the OPP. They will have eyes out there if more people also have had their signs taken, if caught the cowards Will Be Charged With A Federal Offence!
On a brighter note. My Candidate dropped off Another SIGN to me!
It will be wired up this time.
Shameful actions, from a few thoughtless cowards…

Editor’s Note: Sad indeed, but perhaps not so much as a sign of the times, as stealing or vandalizing campaign signs has been an issue in every municipal, provincial, and federal election that I can recall over the past 40 years that I have followed elections with interest. Disappointing, but par for the course unfortunately.
