It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of John Douglas Thomas on Thursday, August 22, 2024, peacefully at his home in Meaford with his loving wife by his side, overlooking his garden, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Doug was the beloved husband of Ethel Gwendlyn Thomas (nee Lyndon) for 63 years and proud father of Bradley Douglas Thomas (Christine) and Brent Ian Thomas (Milvia), and beloved grandpa to Sarah, Matthew, and Isabel Thomas.
Born in Meaford on January 24, 1940, Doug was a son of the late Mary Doris (nee Dick) and John ‘Jack’ Thomas of both Niagara Falls and Meaford. He will be missed by his brother Carl Edward Thomas (late Liz) and many nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his sister Judith Ellen Fox and will be remembered fondly by his brother-in-law James, and was predeceased by his brother-in-law Donald Lyndon (late Cheryl).
Doug very much enjoyed his 38 years of employment with Bell Canada in Toronto and the Toronto International Airport. After his retirement he then joined Bell Mobility. He loved tending to his garden and enjoyed carpentry projects. Family meant the world to Doug.
The family extend their sincere thanks to Doctors Euler, Allan, and Rogers and the staff at the Clarksburg Medical Group, to Dr. Aboo and the oncology team at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital, and to the VON nursing staff and family and friends who have helped us out along the way.
Family and friends will gather for a private celebration of Doug’s life at Meaford Hall.
As your expression of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON, N4L 1B9, to whom arrangements have been entrusted.
