Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gym Opening in Meaford

If you have ever been curious about trying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a new gym is opening in Meaford that will afford an opportunity to give it a try.

Georgian Bay Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, operated by head coach Kyle Clements and Kristen McCormick, will be opening in the former high school building at 135 Eliza Street. They’ll be hosting an open house on August 10, from noon until 3 p.m., that will include a free introductory class.

First developed in 1925, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is based on grappling, ground fighting, and submission holds, has grown in popularity in recent years, becoming one of the most popular of the martial arts.

The open house is a great opportunity for all members of the community to check out the space. Regular classes begin on August 12, our schedule is posted on our website. We have separate classes for ages 5-9, 10-15, and 16+,” Kyle Clements told The Independent. “Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a great sport for anyone. You learn self defence, it teaches discipline, you gain full body strength and improve your overall fitness and mobility all while using critical thinking skills.”
