GBCS Students Hiked 4Km For Earth Day

Earth Day has traditionally been a big event for the Meaford schools, and this year Georgian Bay Community School (GBCS) students got back to the tradition of an Earth Day hike.

A past principal of St. Vincent Euphrasia Elementary School (SVE), Bruce Calvert, began this tradition in 2008 to celebrate Earth Day and to raise funds for the Grey Sauble Conservation Foundation and for the participating school.

This year, close to 700 students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 8 participated in the event, and those who hiked the Georgian Trail were joined by members of the Calvert family and by the Vice Chair of the Grey Sauble Conservation Foundation, Al Wilcox.

Students hiked over four kilometres while enjoying the natural beauty that surrounds our town. Many thanks to the Calvert family and Grey Sauble Conservation Foundation for establishing this fundraiser and to those who gave donations to this worthy cause.
