Grey Bruce Top Doctor Giving Notice of Intent to Mandate Face Covering OrderGrey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Ian Arra is giving notice of intent to Order the mandatory wearing of face coverings in enclosed public places. The Order will be issued and coming into effect within the next 10 days as per consultation with stakeholders.

Public Health has been in ongoing discussion with stakeholders in respect to the details and language of the Order. This will ensure the Order is appropriate and proportionate to the local needs and that it can be implemented in a manner that is practical, equitable, and does not infringe on the rights of people who cannot tolerate facial covering due to medical conditions.

Accumulating epidemiological evidence indicates that the widespread use of Face Coverings in public decreases spread of respiratory droplets, and expert opinion supports the widespread use of face coverings to decrease transmission of COVID-19.

Wearing of face coverings in enclosed public spaces further reduces the risk of transmission of COVID-19.” says Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ian Arra. “It is of critical importance that the use of face coverings does not become a replacement to the current effective practices of physical distancing, handwashing, screening for symptoms among others. Face covering should be used in combination with these practices to break the chain of transmission of the virus.”
