Meaford Harbour Run Takes Another Jog in the Road!

Staff

Meaford Harbour Run Takes Another Jog in the Road! The Meaford Harbour Run officials are now offering a Virtual 5K option to those who wish to continue their support for the hospital but don’t feel comfortable attending on race day. The new option will encourage participants to complete 5K their way between September 1 and race day, with options to kayak, canoe, run, walk, stroll, or whichever way they wish to complete 5K.

There are even some cool prizes for those that push their way to surge past 5K and give themselves a larger challenge.

Saturday, September 19 is still scheduled as race day for those still wishing to come out to run/walk the annual event. They might find there are a few changes due to Covid restrictions but race officials are planning the day as best as they can.

There have been so many businesses already experiencing changes and we are all aware of social distancing protocols, so participants should come expecting restrictions to be in place. Participants will be kept up to date as the event day draws closer and as restrictions lift in the province. The biggest change will be that the event will move to a user-friendly Asics Runkeeper App that participants can load on their phone instead of having a bib or ankle chip timed unit attached which allows the race to better control touch points. The health of each participant and the community is the first priority and the race officials are actively monitoring the Public Health Agency of Canada’s recommendations regarding the pandemic, including those on physical distancing.

The kids 1K race has unfortunately been cancelled, however organizers are offering a summer challenge which includes Bingo Scavenger cards that have kids locating items and answering questions about the community. All kids who complete the card will receive a reward for their efforts.

We hope this will give them a fun, social distancing, interactive challenge this summer. Bingo cards can be picked up at the Meaford Chamber of Commerce office or downloaded on the race site,” said organizers. “What we do know is that raising funds for mental health initiatives is important and we are continuing to proceed with the planning phases of our event. We urge you to register, start training if you have not already done so, and start your fundraising to help us to raise funds in support of our area hospitals.”

Howcan you get involved? Register or donate today to support YOUR local hospital at www.mhfoundation.ca or offer to volunteer your time on September 19.
