On the night of Wednesday, March 18 a Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer attempted to stop a vehicle on Hwy. 26, in the Municipality of Meaford, to check the sobriety of the driver after the vehicle was observed weaving within the west bound lane at speeds well below the posted speed limit of 80 km/h.

The officer, operating a fully marked OPP cruiser, activated the cruiser’s emergency roof lights and followed the suspect vehicle for a distance of approximately 5 km at speeds of 30 km/h to 40 km/h before the driver pulled over and stopped his vehicle on Grey Rd. 112.

The driver of the 2013 BMW SUV, who was found not to be impaired, explained to the officer that he was not aware that he was required to stop his vehicle until he heard the cruiser’s siren.

The 22 year old male driver from Markham, Ontario was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for fail to stop on right for emergency vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

The total payable fine for this offence is $490 and three demerit points.
