Letter to the Editor
Dear Editor,
I have just read two letters to you regarding the swans at the Lakeview Cemetery. I have to agree with these opinions as well. Tell me what’s right about “keeping” swans at the cemetery as a source of entertainment and worse…decoration!
Mute swans need to feed in deeper water than ducks and feed on acquatic insect, plants, frogs and fish…I am not confident that there’s appropriate provision for them with regards to their natural needs. They can live 30 to 40 years in captivity, but how can we guarantee appropriate care in the future if they indeed last this long?
The swans have a very different opinion I’m sure and that’s probably why they have disappeared. I just hope our selfishness has not cost their lives…it’s time to stop the re-supply and victimization of these beautiful creatures.
