Winter Storm Tests Motorists’ Readiness

Staff

dec 11 snow2Yesterday’s winter storm that passed through Grey County tested motorists’ readiness for safe winter driving.

High winds and blowing snow created pockets of zero visibility and hazardous driving conditions, resulting in many road closures throughout the area.

Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 16 motor vehicle collisions, abandoned vehicles and stranded motorist type calls between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18.  There were no serious injuries reported.

Grey County OPP are reminding motorists that when a road is declared closed for safety reasons; driving on it is against the law.  Not only does it put you and your passengers at risk, it endangers those operating snowplows and emergency vehicles.

Grey County OPP also wish to remind motorists not to call police inquiring about road/weather information.  Drivers are encouraged to call 5-1-1 for provincial highways, or the various individual municipal websites for details.
