The Beaver Valley River Rats Peewee Select Baseball team season has come to an end, and what a season it was.
The team competed in the York-Simcoe Baseball Association and finished in first place with 16 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie. They also attended two tournaments in Muskoka, and London and won both tournaments.
They proceeded to win their year end tournament which qualified them for the Provincial Championships. The Provincials took place over the labour day long weekend in Orangeville with the top 12 teams in Ontario attending.
The Rats had their first loss of the season in their first game, losing 11-5 to the Forest Glade Falcons. They bounced back from the loss to win all of their games Saturday, defeating East York 5-4, Halton Hills 18-1, and Brampton Red Sox 9-0.
They headed into Sunday as one of the top 4 teams. In their first game they defeated the North Bay Stingers 5-4, and proceeded to the finals vs. Erindale. In a great, well matched game the Beaver Valley squad came out on top with a 6-4 win, making them the Provincial Champions.
The team finished the season with a record of 42 wins, 1 loss and 1 tie.
The Beaver Valley Peewee Select Baseball Team is made up of 12 and 13 year old boys that live in the Meaford, Thornbury, Collingwood, Stayner and Shelburne areas. The team members were:
Tanner Almond, Griffin Almond, Parker Almond, Rowan Aubin, Brodie Casey-Shaw, Mason Dobie, Ethan Emerson, Evan Halliday, Trent Hill, Aiden Hunt, Travis Saunders and Evan Soules.
Congrats also to coaches Josh Almond, Justin Aubin, Ryan Emerson and Mark Hill. Special thanks to team manager Marni Saunders.
