Despite the efforts by residents to avoid frozen pipes, the extreme cold weather has caused the watermain on Collingwood Street to become frozen, stopping water flow to all residences on Collingwood Street between Thompson Street and Cook Street.
The watermain freeze could last at least a month, and in the meantime the Operations Department is assessing the situation with the aim of connecting residences to temporary water services.
Residences affected by the watermain freeze will be able to fill water jugs at the Water Treatment Plant at 574 Grandview Drive, or at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre, at no charge. The tap at the Water Treatment Plant is located on the Grandview side of the building, and is available 24 hours a day.
Residents in other areas of the Municipality who have not had pipes freeze are recommended to run a tap 24 hours a day with a steady stream about the size of a pencil. To have your water bill adjusted to average usage rates from previous years, please complete a Frozen Pipe Prevention Registration form, available online at www.meaford.caunder the Quick Links heading.
If you need assistance filling out the form, contact 519-538-1060 or come to the Municipal Office at 21 Trowbridge Street, open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
