Frustration Over Lack of Information About Proposed Energy Project on Base

Letter to the Editor

Editor,

As far as Meaford and further Georgian Bay residents know, the only group contacted by TCE was Sunnyside Cottage Association, which includes cottages on a Cedar Ave.

No one from nearby neighbourhoods located near DND land (7th Line, 22nd, Captains Court, Grey Road 22, Grey Road 112) was aware nor contacted or consulted in a reference of the proposed project. On September 1, 2019, Sunnyside Association shared the news at their meeting and this info was spread further after.

Neither TCE nor DND nor City of Meaford nor local newspapers made any efforts to inform us about the proposed plan.

As a side note, I personally purchased the land at 151 Captains Court on May 2019, without any knowledge that this area may be affected by a nearby construction of the 1000 Megawatt hydroelectric plant. Due diligence of checking outstanding executions affecting a title to the property did not show any issues, even by August 19, 2019.

The TCE plan was kept as a secret and not shared publicly.

Our community is very disappointed by all these actions and business conduct and how it is taking off, especially in a view that disadvantages magnificently outweigh any benefit of this plan. And questions we all have are not being answered.

Regards,

Teresa M Sorska, Meaford

Editor’s Note: When you write, “Neither TCE nor DND nor City of Meaford nor local newspapers made any efforts to inform us about the proposed plan”, perhaps it hasn’t occurred to you that we (the municipality, local newspapers, and community members) all learned of this proposal at the same time? Not everything is a conspiracy.
