Letter to the Editor
Editor,
Got my comeuppance from a young lady today.
A hot day, car thermometer at 35 degrees Celsius.
My wife has a physio appointment.
Tells me to keep the car running while waiting so she is not stifled by the heat after treatment.
Waiting for her return with the car running, I fall asleep reading.
Knock on the window wakes me up.
Wind down the window and a nice young lady asks me how long I was going to keep the car running, sitting there you have had it running for at least 15 minutes. The environment is heating up, and there is an air-conditioned waiting room in the clinic.
I find no words to reply. Turn off engine and open windows. Utterly embarrassed.
Lady goes back to her car, mission accomplished.
I would like to publicly thank this LADY for her commitment to our planet.
It took a lot of nerve for her to approach an obvious senior and point out to him that he was an environmental slob. (My words, NOT hers, but true nonetheless.)
I did NOT learn a lesson here, I learned it a long time ago, just needed a reminder.
Thank you, young lady. I admire your spunk. Wish there were a million more of you!!
Location and time of this lesson in environmental responsibility:
