Last year four Meaford youths organized a charity yard sale in honour of their grandparents, and they raised $6,202 for the Meaford Hospital Foundation, and they are hoping for a repeat performance this weekend.
Abby Johnston and Shalyn, Farrah, and Summer Harding organized the event in memory of grandparents Bob and Wilda Harding, an undertaking that involved collecting hundreds of items from community members and local businesses to sell. The four girls spent many evenings preparing and sorting the donated items, and they also enlisted a team of bakers to donate tasty treats to offer their yard sale shoppers.
This will be the youths third year hosting the fundraiser in memory of their grandparents.
“Its a great way to keep their memory alive, while giving back to our community, which was such an important thing to Bob and Wilda,” said parent Jennifer Johnston.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday June 1, from 10-3pm at Rices Home Hardware.
Featured this year will be a BBQ, a yummy Bake sale, an awesome raffle with prizes being donated by local businesses, Tickets will be sold for a chance to win a brand new Traeger Smoker/Grill, and there will also be popcorn, candy bags, and coffee available at the yard sale.
“All money raised will be donated through the Meaford Harbour 5km Run/Walk. This will be our families 5th year participating in the walk and we have raised almost $50,000,” said Johnston.
