The annual battle of the books is back! Georgian Bay Reads is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Saturday, October 20, at 7 p.m. at Meaford Hall.
“New this year, we have local authors defending Canadian books that have influenced them,” said the Meaford Public Library. Their powers of persuasion will be tested as one book will be voted off each round until there is only one book left.
The local authors are:
Cecily Ross is defending The Wars by Timothy Findley, on behalf of Clearview Public Library;
Catherine Gildiner is defending Dance of the Happy Shades by Alice Munro, on behalf of Collingwood Public Library;
Cathy Marie Buchanan is defending All My Puny Sorrows by Miriam Toews, on behalf of Meaford Public Library;
Tracy L. Ward is defending Random Passage by Bernice Morgan, on behalf of Springwater Public Library;
Bianca Lakoseljac defends The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline, on behalf of Wasaga Beach Public Library.
Moderating the evening’s debate will be Catherine Thompson, newscaster and reporter with 97.7 FM
During each round, the defenders answer questions regarding their chosen book, critique the other books, and form alliances to determine which book stays and which book is voted out. Witty retorts and wisecracks fly as each defender attempts to prove why their book is the best. The audience also gets into the action by voting for the People’s Choice award during the intermission.
“Georgian Bay Reads is an event our library and community look forward to every year. It is a great way to raise the profile of our Canadian authors and the library. Plus it is so much fun!” said Amy Solecki, Community Outreach Coordinator for Meaford Public Library.
Tickets are required for this free event and are available at the participating libraries. Pick up your ticket early as you do not want to miss the 10th anniversary of this lively book debate.
