In June of 2014, then 83-year-old Meaford resident Hugh Timmerman reached an impressive milestone when his bicycle odometer ticked past 40,000 kilometres. That milestone wasn’t enough for the avid cyclist however, and he kept pedaling. Four years later, at the age of 87, he has reached 50,000 kilometres on two wheels.
The majority of Timmerman’s kilometres have been pedalled on the Georgian Trail between Meaford and Collingwood over the past 20 years, including his annual Terry Fox rides that have raised several thousand dollars for cancer research.
With four months of ride-friendly weather ahead of him, Timmerman is certain to log many more kilometres on his bicycle – perhaps en route to 60,000?
