Combining a Library & High School Has Been Successful Elsewhere

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Has the high school been considered as a location for the public library to move to?
When I lived in Erin a new high school had just been built.  As part of the planning the community tried to think outside of the box and see how they could get everything the community needed and wanted in one build.

The high school and other community entities share facilities including:  the public library (no separate high school library); the community centre and skating rink, doctor, dentist and other health care provider offices, a theatre like our Meaford Hall.

I’m not suggesting that all these things would be required in Meaford, but Erin has lead the way in showing us how different pieces of the community puzzle can work together (including cost sharing) and make it a complete picture of a healthy vibrant community.  If Meaford high school has extra space and the library needs new space, instead of doing a totally separate expensive build why not share between two organizations and create a truly amazing facility in a building that already exists.

Here is the link to the Erin Library:

Someone from our council or municipal office should really go and have a look at how successful this cooperative venture has been.
