Letter to the Editor
Editor,
I am offering my sincere hope that Snow and Ambrosia will live healthy and happy lives wherever they are, however I would like to weigh in on the future of swans in our cemetary. In my opinion two of the main factors to consider are the welfare of the swans and the cost of their care and maintenance.
There is no doubt in my mind that swans, although domestic, would benefit from access to wide open waters that run fresh and have an abundance of natural vegetation and shelter. We have not been able to offer that in our cemetary to this point. Of course they can “survive” if properly cared for but there is surely a cost attached to their purchase as well as their ongoing care and feeding. I am confident that this time and money could be put to better use.
If we replace them we will likely end up with unhappy birds that may also come to a questionable end, all at a considerable expense.
We have lovely peaceful surroundings for people to enjoy at Lakeview Cemetary. I am sure that there are more natural ways to further enhance the beauty of the pond. We are caring and compassionate community please give this some serious consideration before going forward.
Best regards,
