Editor,
I enjoyed your article on thinking outside the box. My wife and I just moved to Meaford, purchasing a house in the downtown area.
When I was the general manager of Dunnville Hydro, there were a lot of issues to deal with in which people said it can’t be done. I finally put a saying up on the wall in the lunchroom – “Would those of you who are saying it can’t be done stop interrupting those of us who are doing it.”
Currently, I am the president of Orangeville Hydro. When our local police force had run out of space they were using our boardroom and lunchroom as meeting places. The police needed a new building but the cost was pretty steep. I suggested to the Town Council that they add on to our building and we share some services. Eventually that was the decision and the Town saved $600,000 in construction costs in part due to deep servicing. We also now share the cost of grass cutting and snow maintenance.
Kudos for your suggestion.
Thanks,
George Dick, Meaford
