Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) urge motorists to use extra caution when driving in school zone areas.
Motorists are urged to be patient, slow down, and watch for pedestrians at all times. Drive within the posted speed limit and allow time to react to unexpected situations. Pay special attention in areas where school buses load and unload students.
Grey County OPP also encourage all parents and caregivers to talk to their children about the importance of being safe when going to and from school, whether they go by foot, riding their bike, or by school bus.
Meaford residents – note that a large number of young children in Meaford are now going across town to get to school at Georgian Bay Community School, the former high school, located on Eliza Street at St. Vincent Street. As a result, motorists can expect an increase in the amount of pedestrian and vehicular traffic and should therefore use extra caution during peak school hours.
