The Meaford Ladies 18 Hole Club has just one major event remaining in the season – a nine hole scramble that will be held on September 29, and will be followed by their final general meeting for the year along with the presentation of awards.
In recent weeks, the club has been busy on the golf course packing in as much golf as they can before Mother Nature takes over for the winter months.
On the ‘Field Day’ for the Meaford Ladies 18 Hole Club on August 25, a large amount of food donations was collected for the Golden Town Outreach food bank. Convened by Sue MacDougald and Suzy Patrick, prizes were given as follows: closest to the rope, Cathy Seidle; Closest to the pin on M2, Linda Walker,on M9, Carole Frey and on R9, Anne Thompson; Longest Drive, Sue MacDougald.
On September 1, the goal was for all participants to ‘Beat the Champ’.
“Marg Tirpkoff and Candy Yeandle organized the game, using our net scores to compare with our Champ, Sue MacDougald. Perhaps because of our new rating and handicaps, it seemed like quite a few were able to better Sue’s score. Linda Walker was the Overall Winner. Marg Tirpkoff, Doris George, Marge Allin, Cathy Seidle, Lou Fowler, and Norma Young all posted lower scores than Sue,” said organizers.
The ‘Chix with Stix’, a three game inter-club series, finished on September 8 at Marlwood golf course in Wasaga Beach. A total of 85 ladies played, with 10 from the Meaford club.
“The rain held off so we could complete the game. The committee tallied up the results, with the Batteaux Creek club winning the gross prize, and Duntroon the net prize. The players enjoyed socializing over a turkey dinner to wind up the competition,” said the club.
‘Bingo Bango Bongo’ was the game played on September 15, where each player counts the points received: one point each for first on the green, nearest to the pin, and first in the cup. Cathy Seidle and Suzie Kellett gave out the prizes for the most points scored. Coincidentally, the conveners were prize winners themselves, along with Joan Jensen.
“The 29th will be our final day with a 9 hole Scramble at 1 p.m., followed by a general meeting, presentation of awards, and dinner,” said the club.
