Coast Guard Rescues Two Men After Canoe Capsized Off Meaford’s Shore

mfd coast gd crew 270On Sunday, July 10, the Canadian Coast Guard boat crew stationed at Meaford rescued two people after a canoe capsized about a kilometre from shore.

A concerned citizen spotted two persons in the water who appeared to be in distress, just north of Meaford. Ontario Provincial Police attended and confirmed the sighting.

The Canadian Coast Guard’s Marine Communications and Traffic Services Centre in Sarnia issued a mayday relay broadcast and the Coast Guard’s Meaford-based crew responded immediately.

The coast guard crew, using a fast rescue craft located the two men in the water and returned them to shore. They were unharmed, and had been wearing life jackets.
