Two Schulich School of Medicine students were introduced to the opportunities and challenges of living and working in a rural setting during their Discovery Week, here in Meaford, May 30 to June 2.
Staying at a local bed & breakfast during their visit, their schedule included shadowing physicians in their offices at the Don Bumstead & Family Medical Centre, and at the Blue Mountains Community Health Centre.
Time was spent observing in the Meaford Hospital Operating Room, in Emergency, and on the Medical Unit. Registered Dietitians offered a learning session in the Diabetes Education clinic and the students gave a presentation to Georgian Bay Secondary School students on careers in medicine.
“The weather has cooperated, highlighting our beautiful community at its best. We hope that Sandra and North will visit with us again and be ambassadors to attract physicians to our community!” said organizers of the visit.
