Time is Running Out to Nominate the Rotary Citizen of the Year & Youth Citizen of the Year

Meaford Rotary logo270Those wanting to submit a nomination for the Meaford Rotary Club’s Citizen of the Year and Youth Citizen of the Year have one week left to do so.

Written nomination submissions can be sent by mail (The Rotary Club of Meaford, P.O. Box 3229, Meaford, ON N4L 1A5) or by email (info@meafordrotary.ca).

All submissions should include a nominating letter, a brief statement of the accomplishments of the nominee along with any other supporting details.

The Rotary Club asks that the statement of accomplishments be limited to 400 words, and they remind that unsuccessful nominees from previous years can be resubmitted for consideration this year.

The Rotary Club says that the first annual Youth Citizen of the Year category is for youths aged 20 or younger who have made a positive difference their community, for example – champions in their school or local community, young careers, fundraisers, volunteers, or those who have shown courage.

Eligibility criteria for Citizen of the Year are as follows:

  • The nominee(s) contributed to a community activity or activities in the immediate past calendar year (2015).

  • The nominees must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Rotarians and their immediate families are not eligible for nomination.

  • The activity or activities that support the nomination are voluntary in nature and not part of the candidate’s occupation or job description. The candidate did not receive remuneration or other valuable consideration for such activity or activities.

  • The nature of the activity or activities involve one or more of the following guidelines:

  • * Provides a benefit to the community

  • * Brings credit or distinction to our community

  • * Enhances life in our community, and

  • * Represents an effort over and above normal volunteer work

  • The candidate may be an individual, a couple who are partners, or a close knit, coherent, and readily identifiable group of individuals, other than organizations such as Service Clubs.

Eligibility criteria for Youth Citizen of the Year are as follows:

The nominee(s) contributed to a community activity or activities in the immediate past calendar year (2015).

  • The nominee(s) must be 20 years of age or younger.

  • Rotarians and their immediate families are not eligible for nomination.

  • The nominee(s) have made a positive difference, for example – champions in their school or local community, young careers, fundraisers, volunteers, or persons who have shown courage.

Judging will be based on the nominations and information received. Emphasis is on the all-round activities within the community.
