25 Years of Honouring Local Veterans

To mark the 25th anniversary of the Honouring Our Local Veterans (HOLV) program, the Billy Bishop Museum is hosting a reunion.

Over the past quarter century, the Museum had honoured 219 veterans from the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, Peacekeeping Missions, Afghanistan, and Canadians who served in the American Forces during the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. This luncheon will gather together veterans who have previously been included in HOLV, veterans yet to be honoured, current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and the community to celebrate the legacy of service in Grey and Bruce Counties.

Come and mark this special occasion of commemoration on Sunday, August 10, at 11 a.m., at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 6, Owen Sound. Starting with the return of the 2024 HOLV plaques, the lunch will be followed by a keynote speech by Brigadier General (Retired) Daniel MacIsaac, BEng, MDS, MPP, CD.

If you or a family member have received an Honouring Our Local Veterans plaque, we ask that you please bring it with you, so that a group photo can be taken,” said organizers.

A buffet lunch will be provided by the Branch 6 Ladies’ Auxiliary. Veterans and current serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be admitted free of charge. Tickets for the public are $35 and can be reserved/purchased at https://www.billybishopmuseum.org/events.

We are extremely grateful for the continual support of Veterans Affairs Canada and Kelso Villa Retirement Community in our mission to commemorate the service and sacrifices of local veterans,” said organizers.
