2026 Candidate For Meaford Council – John Clark

Candidate Name: John Clark

Position Sought: Councillor

Email: johnclark4council@gmail.com

Phone: 5194772014

Bio: I grew up on a farm in Euphrasia township. I graduated from GBSS in 1977 and from Niagara Community College in 1980. I have worked in a variety of industries including agriculture, construction and fast food. I worked at Talisman Mountain Resort, Grey County Roads department and Hincks-Dellcrest Centre. At present I am a school bus driver for Martin School Transit.

After I got married in 1987, we moved to the town of Meaford, and we have lived here since then. We have had a store on Sykes Street, Meaford since 1994, except for seven years. My wife Cheryl, my son Isaac and I are the owners of Ashyrah Clothing Boutique.

Explain your primary reasons for your decision to seek election to Meaford council:

I have been interested in political events at all levels all of my life. I have considered being involved in municipal government for a long time. I believe I can be of benefit to the residents of Meaford by being involved in local government and sharing my ideas with the community through the municipal council.

In your view, what should be the top priorities for the council that is elected on October 26?

I think we can reduce the tax burden on individual property owners by using our land resources better. We need more property improvements so that there is more property tax revenue. This way the tax burden is shared by more and everybody pays less.

Explain the role of councillor as you understand it:

The primary role of a municipal government is to create and maintain the infrastructure such as the roads, sidewalks, sewer system and municipal water system.

The second role of municipal government is to protect and improve the property value of the property owners. They do this by zoning, planning, building codes and economic development.

Municipal governments should also improve the quality of life in a community. They do this by building and maintaining arenas, libraries, parks and community centres.
