On Friday, July 19, at approximately 10:05 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. spot check at the intersection of St. Vincent Street and Margaret Street, in the Municipality of Meaford.

A 1992 Ford Escort approached the spot check.  The officer detected an odor of alcohol from within the vehicle and observed an open case of beer directly behind the driver’s seat.  It was determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol and was requested to provide a breath sample into an approved road side screening device.

After registering a fail on the roadside device, the driver was transported to the Meaford OPP Detachment for further breath tests.  The test results indicated he had consumed more than three times the legal limit of alcohol.

The 42 year old Meaford man, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and over 80 mg.

He is scheduled to appear in Court in Owen Sound on Thursday, August 1, 2013.
