Reader Calls on Residents to Make Their Concerns Known to Council

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor,

I’m writing this letter, to let people know that I wrote letters last fall to, the CAO, Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillors about some issues that needed to be addressed- I received no response and nothing was done about the issues mentioned.

I have written to our MPP and received a response and they forwarded my letter to the people who are in charge of these matters- In time, they in turn wrote to me- thanking me- and told me what was being done.

I’m a resident and tax payer in Meaford and I helped put some of these members into the positions they hold on Town Council. I think I deserve more respect and so do the people of Meaford.

The issues I mentioned where the streets need redone- the Big Bump where the watermain broke – just got paved yesterday! Thank you to the people who made that happen.

Our post office street and behind Tim Hortons; I was told that was being done long ago. Also the entrance into town on North side needs to be maintained- grass and weeds cut and “kept trimmed.”

The street into the cemetery beyond the pillars is a total “DISGRACE” to the of Meaford- you can hardly drive on it.

The chapel needs a new roof, windows, the inside needs updated- painted with lovely murals on walls depicting the scenery, pond and swans- trees and flower gardens- a dark green indoor, outdoor carpet on the floor- would make the building more user friendly and something to be proud of.

A yellow weed, and white grubs are bad through out the grounds. Estimate done, but nothing done about it.

I think that now is the right time for the Town of Meaford to “Speak Up” on the issues that matter to you.

It is time for CHANGE- we the people need more input and information on where our high TAX dollars are being spent. We a need council that will push for new condominiums that are spacious and fulfil the needs of those who have to give up their home because of age and health concerns. – we also need assisted living conditions- dining and pool, recreation centre, storage area, underground parking with access to it by elevator.

We have had residents of this town who have lived here all their lives, and ran a business, which helped the town of Meaford. They had to move to Owen Sound to find living accommodations that they needed.

I say this is shameful!

We need action- please listen to the people.

All the info for mayor and Town Council can be found on www.meaford.ca

Respectfully,

Isabel Petch
