Man Turns Himself in After Liquor Theft

On Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at approximately 5:54 p.m., a male attended at the Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) – Meaford Detachment, where he disclosed to police that he had committed a theft from the L.C.B.O. located on Nelson St., W., in the Municipality of Meaford on Friday, May 16.

The male stated that he had entered the L.C.B.O. in Meaford last Friday, where he concealed a bottle of liquor then proceeded to the checkout, where he purchased a single can of beer.   The store manager, who suspected a theft was being attempted, confronted the male who denied the allegation and left the store.

Investigation revealed the male was on probation to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The 27 year old Meaford man was arrested and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of probation.  He was held for a bail hearing.  His next court appearance is scheduled for May 26, 2014 in Owen Sound.
