Award-Winning Author and Artist Allen Smutylo at Meaford Hall

On Wednesday, May 28 at 7 pm, the Meaford Public Library will be hosting renowned artist and writer Allen Smutylo for the library’s final Koffee House Reads event for 2014.

The award-winning author will appear at Meaford Hall’s North Gallery for a presentation followed by autograph and book sale. In the tradition of the library’s Koffee House Reads events, Allen will discuss his work as a writer and artist, reflecting particularly on his many travels.

Canadian adventurer, and award winning writer, and artist Allen Smutylo has explored some of the wildest, holiest, most beautiful, and most dangerous waters in far-flung corners of the globe. As a successful visual artist, his paintings have been featured in exhibits throughout Canada

In 2007, his book Wild Places, Wild Hearts was published to rave reviews. In it, he recounts his travels to the Himalaya and his close relationships with many of the nomads who live there. Featuring 130 colour images of Allen’s artwork, Wild Places, Wild Hearts won the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival Award for Best Adventure/Travel Book.

The Memory of Water, his second book, describes his adventures in the Arctic, South Pacific, Great Lakes region, and India, accompanied by the author’s own stunning artwork. This book was recognized with one of our country’s highest honours – it was nominated for the 2013 Governor General’s Award for Nonfiction.

Following his talk, Allen will be available to autograph copies of his books.
