Farmers’ Market Opens June 6

The Meaford Farmers’ Market team is very excited for another market season, beginning Friday, June 6 from 3 – 7 pm at Meaford’s Rotary Harbour Pavilion.

Meaford Farmers’ Market showcases some of the best tastes, arts, crafts and sounds that the Meaford and surrounding area has to offer. This year the market will offer a wide array of marvellous edibles including a diversity of fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and fish, honey, maple syrup, lots of pickles, salsas, jams, jellies, relishes and chutneys, breads, baked goods, organic and allergy-free baked goods, gelato, cheeses, nuts, wild edibles, dried and fresh-cut herbs and flowers and edible plants.

Returning to the Market Bistro this year will be Walter with his delicious homemade perogies and other Polish goodies. New to the Market Bistro this summer, and new to the Meaford Farmers’ Market, the Giesbrechts will be offering smoked pork sausage on a bun. If you are thirsty, there will be a nice selection of beverages such as locally roasted fair trade organic coffee, fabulous herbal teas and canned tomato and rhubarb juice.

We are excited to announce that a Market Chef will be present to bless us with their culinary skills this summer! On the days that the Market Chef will be present, they will be preparing delicious dishes, which can be sampled, featuring various ingredients found at the market and there will be a demonstration beginning at 4 pm,” said market manager Jaden Calvert.

There will also be arts and crafts such as: paintings, cards, alpaca wool products, toys and games, yoga bags and blankets, sweet grass braids, smudge bowls, knitting, handmade stoneware, homemade soy candles, arrowheads and knives made of volcanic glass and stone, hypertufa garden and patio planters, children’s books from local authors, and wood products such as bowls, jewellery boxes, wine glasses, cheese and cutting boards. A selection of handmade hand and body balms, creams, salves, deodorants, scrubs, and designer soaps will also be offered by market vendors this summer.

Back again this year is the popular live music tent at the market. Some of the live and local musicians and bands to perform at the Meaford Farmers’ Market this summer include: Darlene Watters, Jayden Grahlman, The Browns, Jim Dunham, Bored of Education, Greg Smith, and maybe some performances by the market manager and Tony, the market’s shiatsu masseur.

Continuing this year is the Apple Pie Trail, which showcases the most amazing local apple products. Barbetta Orchard’s dried apple snacks will be the Meaford Farmers’ Market Apple Pie Trail signature offering for 2014,” said Calvert.

The Meaford Public Library will also be returning this year with the ‘Children’s Tent’, offering a number of kids’ stories and crafts each week, as well as the Education Table.

The Meaford Farmers’ Market team looks forward to hosting other special events throughout the summer such as bringing back Angola Murdock and the Grey Bruce Youth Circus group to facilitate a ‘Cirque-du-Soleil’-style workshop, ‘Kids Day’ and ‘Hockey Day’ at the market!” informed Calvert.

If anyone is passionate about something that they would like to share/promote/sell at the Meaford Farmers’ Market and/or would like to get involved with the Meaford Farmers’ Market, feel free to contact Jaden Calvert at info@meafordfarmersmarket.ca or 519-538-0628.
