Obituary: Schmidka, Gertrude ‘Trudy’

Gertrudecrop 1Gertrude passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at the Hospice Georgian Triangle ‘Campbell House’ in Collingwood at the age of 94.

She was born in Austria on July 16, 1926. Gertrude will be sadly missed by her husband of 69 years, Walter Schmidka. She was the much loved mother of Walter Svajda and his wife Linda, and grandmother of Michael Svajda, his wife Tanya, and great-grandmother of Jessie Svajda and Jasmine Tessier, Jasmine’s husband Josh, and great-great-grandmother of their daughter Josie.

Obituary: Loucks, Marian Lynne

Loucksobit2020270Mom passed away peacefully on September 23, 2020. She led a long and remarkable life. Born in Elderslie, Ontario, on February 19, 1922, a daughter of the late Warren and Marjorie (nee Calhoun) Sinclair. Mom attended school in Chesley and completed her teaching certificate at Toronto Normal School. At the tender age of 19 she accepted a teaching position at Minniehill School just outside of Meaford where she met and married Dad, starting a journey that would span almost eight decades. They marked their 75th wedding anniversary on September 1st of this year.

ArtDochertyWebCropArt Docherty passed away at the Meaford Long Term Care Centre on Saturday, September 19, 2020, in his 86th year.

He was born in Toronto on October 28, 1934, to parents Hugh and Olive (nee James) Docherty and spent his favourite years in Meaford.

Art was always all in for whatever he chose to do, whether it was coaching hockey, building his own home, travelling the world, fishing, curling, or playing Bridge.

Obituary: Trusler, Thomas Ellis

Tom was born in Toronto on April 19, 1947. He was the son of the late Alfred and Dorothy Trusler. Tom passed away on September 10, 2020 at the age of 73, following a long battle with COPD.

Tom was able to spend his final two months at home with his loving family who were by his side until the end.
