Councillor Wants Section of Story Book Park Road Returned to Hard-Top

story book park rd lead photo270Councillor Steven Bartley is frustrated that two dozen property owners on Story Book Park Road, east of Grey Road 11, saw their tar and chip hard surface road pulverized and returned to gravel with little warning, and he wants to know what can be done to fix the situation that has angered residents of the road.

Former Foodland Building Could Become Location For New Library

library foodland exterior concept270When it comes to a location for a new library Meaford residents have been vocal in their desire to have the municipality purchase the former Foodland building at 11 Sykes Street at the intersection with Trowbridge Street, and after a presentation to council on September 25, they just might get their way, though it will cost significantly more than some options already explored by council.

At their September 25 meeting, Meaford councillors were presented with the findings of a feasibility study undertaken at the request of council, aimed at determining if the building was a suitable candidate for the municipality to consider for a new library, and the associated costs.

Council Establishes 2018 Budget Framework

mfd operations ctr sign270Meaford's council has established the framework for the 2018 municipal budget, and ratepayers can expect an increase in their property taxes of up to four percent next year.

In a report to council presented at the September 11 council meeting, municipal staff had recommended that council direct staff to prepare a draft budget that would include a tax levy increase of up to 3.7 percent. However members of council, recognizing the massive infrastructure gap facing the municipality in the years to come, along with pressures on the operating budget largely beyond the control of the municipality, asked staff to target a four percent increase.

Bakeshop Bridge Rehabilitation Project Experiencing Delays

bakeshop bridge270A recent halt to work on the rehabilitation project for municipal bridge 030, commonly known as 'Bakeshop Bridge' has had many residents wondering why. The project got underway in mid-June and had been a busy work site until a few weeks ago. Not to worry, says the municipality, work will resume soon.
