Chamber Contract Termination Results in Layoff

Chambersign225Meaford's Chamber of Commerce has announced a pending layoff resulting from council's December 9 decision to terminate a tourism services contract with the organization.

In a letter sent to their members on January 17, the Chamber announced that as of March 31, Administrative Assistant, Sheila Ross, will no longer be employed by the Chamber.

Sparks Fly at First Council Meeting of 2014

council chamber333Meaford Councillor Barb Clumpus arrived at the first council meeting of the year with a bone to pick with her fellow councillors.

Clumpus suggested that a recent decision to terminate the tourism services contract with the Chamber of Commerce violated council's code of conduct and was unethical.

Mayor Won't Seek Re-Election

richardson 225Meaford will have a new mayor after the October municipal election. Mayor Francis Richardson advised his fellow councillors during the first council meeting of the year on January 13 that he would not seek re-election.

After the meeting Mayor Richardson told The Independent that he felt it was time to step aside after helping to fix the financial woes in Meaford which the Mayor conceded were partly his responsibility.
