The future of policing in Meaford will be guided by a consulting company hired by the municipality.

On March 24, council delayed a decision on who will provide policing services to the municipality in the coming years, after voting 4-3 in favour of hiring a consultant to review the Owen Sound Police Service proposal and compare to options available from the OPP.

Candidate List for Municipal Election Starting to Grow

council chamber333While it is still very early in this election year, the list of candidates hoping to secure a seat at Meaford's council on October 27 is growing.

As of the morning of May 28, there are three confirmed candidates for council seats – Peter Bantock, chair of Meaford's library board, farmers' market manager Jaden Calvert, and former Meaford Fire Chief Steve Nickels.

fireThose planning on having fires on their residential properties this summer should familiarize themselves with Meaford's recently updated Open Air Burning Bylaw.

The bylaw, originally established in 2007, was approved for an update by Meaford's council at their May 12 meeting.

The bylaw regulates open air burns to ensure public safety while also addressing nuisance concerns.
