Council Provided With COVID-19 Update As Province Announces Stage 3 of Reopening

Covid 19 270At their July 13 virtual meeting, Meaford councillors were provided with their fifth COVID-19 update since the municipality declared a state of emergency in late March. Prior to Council's meeting the province announced that most of the province, beginning Friday, will move on to Stage 3 of the provincial reopening strategy.

Council Between a Rock and a Hard Place Regarding Bridges 21 & 22

bridge closed270A pair of bridges on the Holland- Sydenham Town Line between Grey Road 29 and the 2nd Concession South have been closed for nearly four years, and despite a concerted effort by the current council to find a solution to replace and reopen the bridges, progress is slow.

Concern About Height of Proposed LTC Development

new LTC concept270A proposal for a new long-term care centre and retirement home complex on the former Meaford Community School property on Cook Street is cause for concern for a number of Meaford residents, who participated in a virtual public planning meeting on Monday, July 6, where their message was clear: residents support the development generally, but there is significant opposition to the proposed six-storey height of the building.

Neighbours Calling on Council to Reject Proposed Glamping Site on 16 Sideroad

Sideroad 16 at Concession 12 is in the heart of Meaford's agricultural community. Its rolling hills and lush farmland, along with glimpses of the Bighead River, provide a tranquil setting; a stark contrast from the hustle and bustle of large urban areas. Though tranquil it may be, a storm has been brewing, as a number of area residents stand in opposition to the development of a proposed luxury 'glamping' (glamorous camping) operation to be located on Sideroad 16. They are calling on council to reject a requested zoning amendment that would allow the project to move forward.
