GBSS Students Have the Freedom to Read

booksLast week, students at Georgian Bay Secondary School (GBSS) have been learning about the intellectual freedom to read, and about challenging censorship during the annual Freedom to Read week in Canada.

The national project, now in its 30th year, is designed to help Canadians to be committed to intellectual freedom, as outlined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Internationally Acclaimed Canadian Fiddler Ashley MacIsaac to Play Meaford Hall

fiddle Jonathan King225Multiple Juno Award winner Ashley MacIsaac will give a one-night-only performance at Meaford Hall on Friday, March 14 at 8 pm. Tickets are selling fast, but a limited number are still available through the Meaford Hall Box Office for $40 each.

A renowned fiddle player, piano player and step dancer, Ashley MacIsaac has performed in the opening ceremonies at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics to a worldwide audience and with artists such as Phillip Glass and The Chieftains.

Beauty and the Beast at Meaford Hall During March Break

mfd hall marchWhen an egotistical, arrogant prince unkindly turns an old woman from his castle door on a dark and stormy night, he is taught a lesson in caring more about others than for himself. For his rudeness, the old woman magically transforms him into a "Horrible, Nasty Beast!" who is forced to hide in his castle, away from humanity, and care for an enchanted rose.  Do you know what happens next?

This March Break, introduce your favourite youngsters to the magic of live theatre with the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. Taking place at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 12 at Meaford Hall, tickets for youth 12 and under are only $10. Adult tickets are priced at $20 and group discounts are available through the box office for this special show.

Meaford Preparing For First Earth Week

EarthWeeklogo225The Municipality of Meaford will be hosting its first annual Earth Week (EW) activities this coming April, from April 20-26.

The week will begin with the annual spring clean-up at Memorial Park, Sunday, April 20, in partnership with the Friends of Memorial Park, and end with a Reuse Fair on Saturday, April 26 at the Meaford and St. Vincent (MSV) Community Centre with some interesting activities in between.
