Turn Off The Screens Completes 12th Year

turnoffscreensThe annual Turn Off The Screens challenge has now completed 12 years of promoting activity rather than screens for children.

From May 5 – 11, students were challenged to be more active by turning off the television, video games and computers and play outside. Many students accumulated as many as 30 hours of physical activity during the week while others managed to remain screen-free the entire time.

Sax Appeal to Sizzle the Stage at Meaford Hall

sax appeal chris rickerJazz lovers take note: Bob DeAngelis is the current title holder for Jazz Clarinetist of the Year (as declared by the National Jazz Awards of Canada), and he comes to Meaford on Thursday, June 12.

A talented musician and respected bandleader, DeAngelis will play with his group Sax Appeal in the Opera House at Meaford Hall Arts & Cultural Centre at 8 pm. Their extensive repertoire covers artists such as Sinatra, Gershwin, Nat King Cole, Cole Porter, Ellington, Diana Krall and more.

GBSS Athlete of the Week: Alex Tulloch

AlexTulloch225Alex is a grade 9 student who recently competed in the midget boys 1500m and 3000m BAA championships and CWOSSA championships. Alex qualified for the CWOSSA Championships in Cambridge finishing in second place in both events.
