Vote by Phone or Internet in This Year's Municipal Election

mfd ballot box2014In June of last year, Meaford's Council approved the use of Electronic Voting (Telephone/Internet) for the 2014 Municipal and School Board Elections that will be held between October 17-27, 2014. 

Vote-by-mail has been used in the municipality since amalgamation.  In preparation for the 2014 Municipal Election, the Legislative Services Department investigated voting methods to ensure value for money and integrity of the voting process.

Local Businessman Inching Closer to Green Light for Medical Marijuana Grow Facility

As promised, Meaford staff quickly completed and submitted to council a study relating to zoning and land use considerations for potential medical marijuana production facilities within the municipality, and local businessman Rob Gardner is hoping that the process continues to move quickly in order for him to move forward with his plans for a new business.

Possible Cell Tower Solution


At their June 9 meeting, Meaford councillors received an update on the progress being made by the Canadian Radio-communications Information and Notification Service (CRINS) who had recently been enlisted by the municipality to help navigate the complex waters of cell tower locations after residents had expressed concern earlier this year with a proposed cell tower installation in close proximity to a residential area and Meaford's Georgian Bay Secondary School.

Fire Department to Replace Ladder Truck

tele1225Meaford's Fire Department will finally be able to replace its 40 year old ladder truck after council gave initial approval to a report submitted by Meaford Fire Chief Mike Molloy at their June 9 meeting.

Meaford's current ladder truck is a 1975 model that was purchased from the Orangeville Fire Department in 2004. The truck recently failed tests relating to use of the ladder and the estimated cost to repair is $4,500, however Chief Molloy told council that at 40 years old, continued and costly repairs to the truck would be unwise.
