Editor,

When someone asks me what I love most about the town of Meaford, the answer is easy, The Meaford Hall Arts and Cultural Centre. As an artist, musician, teacher, and long term resident of this area, I have watched the Meaford Hall evolve into a high calibre and celebrated venue.

It has been incredible to see the cultural diversity that has moved across that stage. Singer songwriters, dance troupes, comedy acts, and so much more, have brought that building to life, causing it to shake with emotion - tears, laughter, awe, amazement, thunderous applause, and shouts of “encore”. It has brought audiences together from far and wide, from many different walks of life, to share in the magic that the Meaford Hall provides. Now that is something to be proud of!

My enthusiasm was recently shaken when I heard about the Hall’s recent restructuring, directly affecting its Cultural Programming. Personally, I have been thrilled with how things have been going. Here is a mind-blowing list of some of the talent the Hall has brought to our little town:

Measha Brueggergosman

Ron Sexsmith

Tanya Tagaq

Joel Plaskett

Bahamas

Chantal Kreviazuk

Celtic Tenors

Andre Philippe Gagnon

Michael Kaeshammer

Ashley MacIsaac

Cowboy Junkies

Danny Michel

Sarah Slean

Whitehorse

The Strumbellas

Jully Black

Jenn Grant

Matt Andersen

Serena Ryder

The Trews

Natalie MacMaster

Colin James

Jesse Cook

Sarah Harmer

Whisperin Bill Anderson

I would like to ask the Meaford Hall, specifically CAO Denyse Morrissey, how the restructuring is going to affect the current quality and caliber of Meaford Hall’s entertainment. I’d like to know what the new vision for the Hall’s entertainment is. If there is a new vision, I’m confused as to why the public and patrons of the Hall have not been consulted. Denyse Morrissey, please enlighten us.
